Treatment to improve symptoms of gastric and duodenal ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and to prevent recurrence
This medication is used for the short-term treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, alleviating symptoms such as heartburn and reflux caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also utilized for maintenance therapy in severe gastroesophageal reflux disease and difficult-to-treat peptic ulcers. It can be given in combination with antibiotics for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and to prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is effective in treating and preventing gastric and duodenal ulcers or erosions caused by the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Particularly, it helps prevent gastrointestinal lesions and alleviate dyspeptic symptoms in patients undergoing long-term NSAID treatment. This medication is used to improve symptoms and treat gastrointestinal-related disorders.
1) Gastric ulcer: 20mg of omeprazole is taken orally once a day. Usually heals within 4 weeks; if treatment is incomplete, an additional 4 weeks may be given. 2) Short-term treatment of duodenal ulcers: 20mg is taken orally once a day; usually heals within 2 weeks; if treatment is incomplete, an additional 2 weeks may be given. 3) Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and GERD: 20mg is taken orally once a day, usually healing within 4 weeks.
This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to its components or those with suspected malignant gastric ulcers. Additionally, interactions may occur if used in combination with certain antiviral agents, so it is advisable not to use them together. Patients with impaired liver function or elderly patients should use this medication with caution, and particularly for those with severely impaired liver function, dosage should be limited. Various side effects, such as headache, dizziness, gastrointestinal disturbances, skin rash, etc., may occur during medication; therefore, consultation with a doctor is needed for severe symptoms. If liver enzyme levels rise or symptoms of hepatitis appear, discontinue use immediately and consult medical personnel. Regular check-ups to monitor for side effects are important for long-term use. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may interfere with the absorption of some drugs; therefore, caution should be taken when taking other medications together. Particularly when combined with anticoagulants or anticonvulsants, monitoring for changes in blood concentration is necessary. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should have their administration of this medication decided with caution, and it is advisable to avoid use if possible. Safety for children has not been sufficiently established, and thus it is preferable not to administer it to children. Overdose may result in symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headache, etc., so a medical institution should be visited immediately. This medication must be kept out of reach of children, stored in its original container, and the cap must be tightly closed after use.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe allergic reactions, high fever along with severe rash, blisters, skin peeling, mucosal pain in mouth/eyes, severe skin adverse reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, DRESS syndrome, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis), shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, skin or eye symptoms
