Urinary disorders due to benign prostatic hyperplasia 1) Initial dose: 1 mg of terazosin is administered orally before bedtime, and this dose should not be exceeded. To minimize the potential for acute hypotension following the initial dose, the patient’s condition should be carefully monitored. 2) Maintenance dose: The dose can be gradually increased until symptoms improve, administering 5-10 mg orally once a day. 3) When used with other diuretics or antihypertensive drugs, the dose may need to be adjusted based on the patient's response. Precautions

This medication is an alpha-blocker, primarily used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and hypertension. This drug should not be used by patients who are hypersensitive to alpha-blockers or children under 12 years of age. It should be administered with caution in patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or a history of orthostatic hypotension, cardiac, or cerebrovascular diseases. This medication contains certain dye components, so patients with allergies to these should exercise caution. Dizziness or syncope due to orthostatic hypotension may occur upon initiation of treatment or when increasing the dose, hence special care is needed at these times. As dizziness or drowsiness may occur, it is advisable to avoid hazardous tasks such as operating machinery or driving. Those taking this drug should rise slowly to avoid dizziness or fainting; if symptoms occur, it is advised to lie down or sit still for a while. This drug helps relieve symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, but if there is no effect, alternative treatment methods should be considered. As symptoms can resemble prostate cancer, it is crucial to verify the presence of cancer before treatment. Patients undergoing cataract surgery should inform their ophthalmologist about taking this medication and be prepared for potential complications during the surgery. This drug can be used in conjunction with various other medications; however, when combined with antihypertensive drugs, the hypotensive effect may be enhanced, hence caution is advised. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully weigh the risks and benefits before taking this drug, and nursing mothers should either avoid it or discontinue breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children have not been confirmed, so it is preferable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients should start with a low dose and be monitored to prevent excessively low blood pressure. In the case of overdose, blood pressure can drop sharply; therefore, patients must seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers from its original packaging for safety.
