Improvement of peripheral arterial, cerebral, and ocular blood circulation disorders
This medication helps improve symptoms caused by ischemia related to cerebral circulation disorders, including post-stroke symptoms, dizziness, headaches, and forgetfulness due to cerebral arteriosclerosis. It also alleviates blood flow disorders in the eyes, supporting vision health. It is used to treat symptoms such as intermittent claudication, pain at rest, diabetic vascular disease, atrophy, and vascular neuropathies caused by peripheral arterial circulation disorders. By enhancing blood circulation, it promotes overall vascular health.
(Oral: tablets) Adults: Administer pentoxifylline orally at 400㎎ per dose 2-3 times daily after meals with a small amount of liquid. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms. (Injection) 1. Intravenous injection: Administer 100㎎ of pentoxifylline per day to adults. With the patient lying down, inject slowly intravenously over at least 5 minutes, or administer by intra-arterial injection if necessary. To assess the individual patient's response, it is preferable to initially administer 50㎎ diluted with saline for injection to a total volume of 10㎖. 2. Intravenous infusion: Initially, mix 100㎎ per day with 250-500㎖ of an infusion solution (such as saline for injection or 5% fructose injection) and administer by intravenous infusion over 90-180 minutes. Starting the following day, increase the daily dose by 50㎎ each day until it reaches 300㎎. For severe circulatory disorders, administer twice daily. 3. Intra-arterial injection: Using a motor-driven syringe, mix 100-300㎎ per day with 20-50㎖ of saline for injection and inject slowly at a rate of 10㎎/min. 4. As adjunctive therapy to intravenous injection or infusion, 100-200㎎ of tablets may be administered. After symptoms improve, treatment may be continued with oral administration. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication belongs to the methylxanthine class and should not be used in patients who have allergies to this drug or similar medications. It is also safe not to administer it to patients with acute myocardial infarction or those at high risk of bleeding, particularly those who have bleeding in the eye. Additionally, patients taking the specific analgesic ketorolac should not use this medication concurrently. Use this drug with caution in patients with severe cardiac arrhythmias, hypotension, coronary artery disease, severely impaired kidney or liver function, and those with a tendency to bleed. Allergic reactions such as skin itching, rashes, and hives may occur when using this drug, and in severe cases, dangerous symptoms such as difficulty breathing or shock may develop, requiring immediate discontinuation of the medication and consultation with a doctor. Gastrointestinal side effects may include reduced appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and rare occurrences of heartburn or constipation. In terms of the cardiovascular system, symptoms may include difficulty breathing, edema, low blood pressure, and rapid heartbeat. Rarely, liver function abnormalities may occur, and blood-related problems such as bleeding or thrombocytopenia may also arise, which requires careful monitoring. Psychoneurological symptoms may include headaches, dizziness, insomnia, blurred vision, anxiety, drowsiness, and depression. In the respiratory system, rare side effects include nosebleeds, cold symptoms, and throat inflammation. Taking this medication in high doses can lead to more frequent gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, and cardiac adverse reactions like arrhythmias. When using it for cerebrovascular diseases, accurate diagnosis is necessary, and particularly in hypertensive patients, regular blood pressure monitoring is recommended. There may be interactions with other medications; for instance, taking it with anticoagulants or platelet inhibitors may raise the risk of bleeding. When taken with diabetes medications, blood sugar levels may drop too low, necessitating careful monitoring of blood sugar. Additionally, combining this drug with antihypertensives may lead to excessive blood pressure reduction, requiring caution. Particularly with theophylline, co-administration may increase theophylline concentrations, worsening side effects. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should avoid using this medication. Safety in children has not been confirmed, and elderly patients should be closely observed due to decreased body function when using this medication. In cases of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so immediate measures such as gastric lavage or treatments to prevent drug absorption should be implemented. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is advisable not to transfer it to other containers to maintain quality.
