Improvement of condition through fluid and electrolyte supply and energy supply before and after surgery in cases of dehydration
This medication is used to replenish fluids and electrolytes that are depleted due to dehydration or pre-and post-surgery. It also assists in providing energy. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating symptoms caused by dehydration and promoting recovery.
Generally, 500 to 1,000 mL is administered as a slow intravenous infusion for adults. The infusion rate should not exceed 0.5 g of glucose per kg of body weight per hour. The dosage and infusion rate should be adjusted appropriately according to age, weight, and symptoms.
This injection contains glucose, potassium, and sodium, and various precautions must be observed during use. Since it contains glucose, thiamine (vitamin B1) may become deficient during intravenous administration, so caution is especially necessary for patients at risk of thiamine deficiency. Allergic reactions may occur with this medication, so if symptoms of hypersensitivity appear, stop the infusion immediately and seek appropriate treatment. As it is a potassium-containing solution, there is a risk of increased serum potassium levels, and patients with poor kidney function, heart disease, or those taking medications that increase potassium levels should use this medication with caution. Due to the glucose component, blood sugar may increase, so diabetic patients or those needing blood sugar control should frequently check their blood sugar levels and may need to combine insulin therapy as necessary. Electrolyte imbalance may occur due to sodium and chloride content, so patients with a risk of hypernatremia or fluid overload should be careful and regularly monitor serum sodium and chloride levels, acid-base balance, and kidney function. Hyponatremia may occur, so especially in children, the elderly, postoperative patients, and patients with mental health conditions, serum sodium levels and neurological symptoms should be closely monitored. Excessive fluid supply may exacerbate conditions such as pulmonary edema or congestive heart failure, so fluid balance and electrolyte status should be checked regularly. In severely malnourished patients, refeeding syndrome may develop during nutritional supplementation, so nutrition should be increased gradually, and potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels should be monitored. This medication should not be administered to specific patients such as those with hyperkalemia, fluid overload, or hyperglycemia and should be administered cautiously in patients with renal impairment or heart failure. Additionally, since there are multiple drugs that may interact with this medication, be sure to inform about any concurrently taken medications, and regularly check serum electrolytes and blood sugar. Particular caution is necessary for pregnant or breastfeeding women, newborns, children, and the elderly, and it should only be used when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. In the event of overdose, the infusion should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be received, possibly necessitating potassium level management and dialysis as needed. During administration, sufficient urine output should be maintained, and to prevent air embolism, avoid continuous infusion. It should be stored at room temperature.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air and moisture ingress. It is important to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Proper storage will help maintain the drug's efficacy and safety.
It is a colorless and transparent liquid filled in a colorless and transparent glass container or a plastic infusion bag.
