Additionally, it should not be used in patients with intestinal obstruction syndrome or unexplained abdominal pain. Elderly patients over 65 years of age should use a reduced dose of this medication. The use of this medication may result in gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, loose stools, and abdominal pain, and long-term use may lead to serious issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, or perforation. Rarely, pigmentation of the rectal mucosa may occur. Severe diarrhea can lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, so if diarrhea occurs, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Skin reactions such as itching, rash, and eczema may occur, and it may affect liver function, resulting in elevated liver enzyme levels. Adhere strictly to your doctor's instructions when taking this medication for long periods. If diarrhea occurs, discontinue the medication and follow your doctor's instructions, avoiding the use of laxatives concurrently. Signs of liver damage may emerge, so regular liver function tests should be conducted, and co-administration with other medications or alcohol that could stress the liver should be avoided. Taking antacids containing calcium, magnesium, or aluminum, or salt concurrently may impede the absorption of this medication, so these should be spaced at least 2 hours apart. Concurrent use with diuretics may lead to increased diuretic effect and cause risks of dehydration or hypokalemia, so be cautious. The combination with heart medications, particularly cardiac glycosides, may increase the risk of arrhythmias and should be approached with caution.
