This medication is effective for gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before surgery and to treat ulcers caused by NSAID use. It helps improve gastric mucosal lesions in conditions such as acute gastritis, chronic gastritis exacerbation, and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It effectively relieves symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux caused by excessive stomach acid, especially in liquid form for relieving reflux symptoms. This way, it is utilized in various gastrointestinal-related disorders to improve patients' symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to any of its ingredients. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of acute porphyria as it may worsen symptoms. For patients with decreased kidney function, the concentration of this medication may increase, so dosages should be reduced or intervals between doses extended. Caution is also warranted for patients with impaired liver function. Patients with a history of drug allergies should be administered with care. Elderly patients should be cautious due to an increased risk of side effects from decreased body function. Patients taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, particularly elderly patients or those with a history of peptic ulcers, will require regular monitoring. As this medication can mask symptoms of gastric cancer, patients with gastric ulcers or new dyspeptic symptoms in middle age or older should undergo evaluation for malignancy prior to use. Patients with Helicobacter pylori-infected gastric and duodenal ulcers require eradication therapy. Rarely, serious allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shock may occur; if any unusual symptoms arise during treatment, it should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment provided. Treatment should be stopped if symptoms of hypersensitivity such as rash, hives, fever, or difficulty breathing develop. If blood disorders emerge, such as fatigue, bleeding, or fever, a blood test should be conducted and necessary measures taken. If hepatic dysfunction symptoms arise, medication should be stopped immediately, and a physician should be consulted. There have been reports of rare occurrences of arrhythmias or vasculitis, so caution is advised if symptoms occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, nausea, or abdominal pain may develop; if discomfort persists, medical attention should be sought. If neurological symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, or headache occur, driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Muscle pain or joint pain, and rarely severe muscle damage, may occur, necessitating discontinuation of the medication if these symptoms arise. Skin rash or hair loss may occur. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers of any concurrently taken medications. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication cautiously, and nursing mothers should consult a physician before use. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution is advised. Elderly patients may experience increased drug concentration due to decreased kidney function; thus, dosage adjustments may be necessary. This medication may give false positive results in some tests; a discussion with healthcare providers about testing methods is warranted. In case of overdose, appropriate treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be needed, and in severe cases, hemodialysis may be necessary. Store the medication out of reach of children, and do not transfer it to another container for safety. This medication reduces gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the stomach; therefore, long-term use may necessitate ophthalmological examinations.
