Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to it or have a history of acute porphyria. In patients with poor kidney function, the concentration of this drug may increase, so caution should be taken in dosage adjustment or extending dosing intervals. Special care is needed for patients with impaired liver function, a history of drug allergies, and the elderly. When taken in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, particularly the elderly or those with a history of peptic ulcers should be monitored regularly. Since it may mask symptoms of gastric cancer, patients with gastric ulcers or newly presenting dyspeptic symptoms over the age of 40 should be evaluated to rule out malignancy prior to treatment. For patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric or duodenal ulcers, bacterial eradication therapy should be conducted concurrently. This drug may rarely cause serious allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, heart problems, gastrointestinal symptoms, or neurological symptoms, so if any unusual symptoms occur, its use should be stopped immediately, and a doctor should be consulted. During treatment, it is important to conduct regular blood tests and liver and kidney function tests to monitor for abnormalities. Elderly patients, those with chronic lung diseases, diabetic patients, and immunocompromised patients may have an increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is warranted. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. There may be interactions with other medications, so particularly when taking anticoagulants such as warfarin, blood coagulation status should be closely monitored. Taking this medication with high doses of sucralfate may reduce absorption; therefore, it is recommended to take them with a 2-hour interval. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully consider the necessity and risks of taking this medication. If breastfeeding, this medication may be transferred into breast milk, so it should only be used when necessary. Safety in children has not been sufficiently confirmed, so caution is necessary in use. Elderly patients may experience increased blood levels of the drug due to reduced kidney function, requiring dosage adjustment and extended intervals between doses. This drug may cause false positive reactions in some tests, so care should be taken with the testing methods. In cases of overdose, appropriate measures such as vomiting or gastric lavage are essential, and if needed, the drug can be removed via hemodialysis. Store safely out of the reach of children and do not transfer to another container. This drug reduces acid secretion, which can promote the growth of bacteria in the stomach; therefore, additional monitoring such as ophthalmic exams may be needed with long-term use.
