Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
For package presentation, dissolve an appropriate amount of water in the powder inside the container and then add additional water to fill up to the 4 L line, shaking well until the solution is homogeneous. A total of 4 L of this solution is appropriate for adult bowel examination preparation. If oral administration is difficult or unwanted, it can be administered via a nasogastric tube. The method of administration is to drink quickly 250 mL of this solution every 10 minutes until the rectal discharge is clear or until the total of 4 L is consumed. Fast for 3 to 4 hours before administration of this medication, and under no circumstances should solid food be consumed 2 hours before administration of this medication. There are several methods for administering this medication. For example, for patients whose examination time is scheduled for after mid-morning, they can be instructed to drink this solution for 3 hours, followed by an additional hour to ensure that the bowel is fully evacuated, before undergoing the examination. Another method (especially when undergoing a barium enema examination) is to administer this solution the evening before the examination. No solid food should be consumed until the examination after the solution is administered, and only clear liquid solutions should be ingested.

How to take

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in specific patients. For example, individuals allergic to this drug or its components, those with suspected gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, patients in dehydration or those with severe heart failure, and individuals with serious damage to the colon should not take this medication. Moreover, it has not been established for safety and efficacy in children, thus it should not be used for them. Caution is advised for elderly or frail patients, as well as those with intestinal stricture or severe constipation. When taking this medication, patients should be closely monitored for allergic reactions or serious side effects such as intestinal perforation or obstruction, which may occur rarely. Especially in patients over the age of 60, severe side effects such as gastric mucosal injury or esophageal perforation, and sudden respiratory distress have been reported. The most common side effects include nausea, abdominal distension, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and most are temporary. Allergic reactions such as skin rash or hives may also occur. Before and during use, bowel movement status should be closely monitored, and if abdominal distension or pain worsens, administration should be stopped and a physician consulted. Additionally, imbalance of fluids or electrolytes may occur, so patients with heart or kidney diseases may require blood tests and ECGs. This medication may cause diarrhea, so adequate fluid intake is important. It is not advisable to use with irritant laxatives due to the increased risk of bowel mucosal damage. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a physician before administering this medication, as its safety has not been established. In cases of overdose, severe diarrhea may occur, necessitating symptomatic treatment such as fluid replacement. This medication must not be mixed with other components or flavors and should be used within 48 hours after dissolving in water. Any remaining solution should be discarded. When storing, keep it in a sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, which will maintain its efficacy and prevent degradation. Lastly, the artificial sweetener aspartame present in this medication may be harmful to patients with phenylketonuria, thus such patients should not take this medication.
