This medication helps alleviate insomnia, making sleep more comfortable and calming the mind through its sedative effects. Therefore, it is used as an adjunct treatment for insomnia and sedation.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults: Take 25 mg of doxylamine succinate orally once a day, 30 minutes before sleep. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals suffering from respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or asthma. Patients with glaucoma or benign prostatic hyperplasia should also avoid taking this medication as it may worsen their symptoms. Additionally, breastfeeding women and children under 15 years old should not take this medication. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with genetic conditions such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should refrain from using it. During the course of this medication, it is advised not to take it with imipramine-based antidepressants, anti-Parkinson’s medication, or disopyramide. If taken together with these drugs, there is a risk of urinary retention or exacerbated side effects such as constipation. Patients should not take other medications without consulting with their physician or pharmacist while taking this drug, nor should they use it continuously for more than 2 weeks. Additionally, this medication may cause drowsiness, so it is advisable to avoid hazardous activities such as operating heavy machinery or driving. It may also be risky to use this drug during or after alcohol consumption, so it should be avoided. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant must consult their physician or pharmacist before taking this medication. When taking this drug, anticholinergic effects may occur, and there is a potential for drowsiness, therefore it is recommended to primarily take it before bedtime. If excessive drowsiness occurs during the day, it is preferable to reduce the dosage. This medication should be stored in a place out of reach of children, securely closed in its original container.
