This medication helps relieve symptoms of gastrointestinal dysfunction such as abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting caused by esophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, gastritis, and duodenitis or ulcers. It is also effective for abdominal pain and discomfort due to irritable bowel syndrome or spastic colon. In children, it is used to improve symptoms of habitual vomiting and non-infectious intestinal transit disorders, such as constipation or diarrhea. By improving various gastrointestinal-related issues, it helps enhance the quality of life for patients.

How to take

Adult dose

As Trimebutine Maleate, 100-200mg orally three times a day before meals. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication contains lactose, so individuals who are intolerant to lactose should not take it. Particularly, those with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. Rarely, gastrointestinal issues such as constipation or diarrhea may occur when taking this medication, and one may experience gas sounds in the intestines, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, dry throat, or a feeling of numbness in the mouth. Palpitations have also been reported rarely. Additionally, symptoms related to the central nervous system such as fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, and headache may appear, so caution is advised. There may be a rare increase in liver function test values, so those with liver health issues should be particularly careful. If an allergic reaction such as a rash occurs, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not certain, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should take it only when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. It is also not safe for breastfeeding women to take this medication; if it must be taken, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding.
