It also aids in maintaining the body's magnesium balance through electrolyte replenishment. Therefore, it is used for the treatment and prevention of symptoms associated with hypomagnesemia.

Precautions

This medication is provided in glass ampoule form, and caution should be exercised when opening the container as glass fragments may mix in, particularly when administering to children and the elderly. It should not be administered to patients with impaired renal function, patients with altered consciousness, patients with high serum magnesium levels, patients with cardiac conduction disorders, and patients with myasthenia gravis. Caution should be exercised when administering to children with intestinal parasitic infections or patients with heart disease. Using this medication may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or dry mouth, and rarely autonomic symptoms like heart conduction disorders, bradycardia, vasodilation, headache, tremors, and tingling. In case of overdose, magnesium toxicity may occur, presenting symptoms such as a feeling of warmth, thirst, hypotension, central nervous system depression, decreased heart rate, and respiratory paralysis, requiring immediate intravenous administration of calcium for detoxification. When used with other medications that have central nervous system depressant effects, this medication may enhance those effects. Also, when taken with iron supplements, certain antibiotics, sodium fluoride, etc., the absorption of these drugs may decrease, and co-administration with muscle relaxants may increase the muscle relaxant effects of magnesium. It is used for the treatment of eclampsia during pregnancy, but it may impact the fetus with reduced muscle tone, decreased reflexes, and hypotension; hence, continuous monitoring of the fetus's condition is necessary, and there is a risk of respiratory depression in newborns when administered during labor. During breastfeeding, safety has not been established, so it is preferable to avoid administration unless specifically needed. Elderly patients may have diminished bodily functions, so administration should be performed slowly and doses adjusted to ensure caution.
