Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Those who are allergic to this medication should not take it. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver or kidney damage, as this medication is metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. Patients with epilepsy, acute glaucoma, and severe myasthenia gravis should also refrain from taking this medication. In particular, patients taking MAO inhibitors should avoid using this medication together, as it may be dangerous. Moreover, since this medication contains lactose, patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not use it. This medication may cause various side effects. Cardiovascular effects may include chest pain, fainting, blood pressure changes, and heart disease. Central nervous system effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, hallucinations, and depression. Symptoms such as tinnitus, sore throat, and eye redness may occur in the eyes, ears, nose, and throat. Gastrointestinal effects may include abdominal bloating, changes in appetite, and nausea. In addition, skin rashes, muscle pain, respiratory issues, and blood abnormalities have been reported. Rarely, severe symptoms known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, so if fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness arise, immediate medical attention is necessary. This medication is not established as a typical antipsychotic, therefore it is not used for the treatment of psychosis. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery after taking this medication. Patients relying on sedatives or sleeping pills should know that this medication does not relieve withdrawal symptoms, so it is necessary to gradually reduce previous medications. Additionally, this medication may affect dopamine receptors, leading to restlessness or movement disorders in some patients. Caution should be exercised when using other central nervous system medications and it should be avoided in conjunction with alcohol. As this medication may interact with certain drugs, it is important to inform your doctor about any medications you are currently taking. Especially when used with MAO inhibitors, blood pressure may rise, so they should not be taken together. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult with a doctor before taking this medication. Also, nursing mothers should avoid this medication, as it can be passed into breast milk. This medication is not used for children under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. In the case of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and drowsiness, although no fatalities have been reported. In the event of an overdose, general emergency care such as gastric lavage should be administered while closely monitoring respiration, pulse, and blood pressure. To use this medication safely, inform your physician of any other medications you are taking or if you consume alcohol, as well as any pregnancy or nursing status.
