(Primary and Secondary Skin Infections) Treatment
This medication is primarily effective against various types of bacteria such as streptococci and staphylococci. It is used for conditions like infectious impetigo, superficial folliculitis, abscesses, furuncles, and folliculitis, which are classified as primary skin infections. Additionally, it helps in the treatment of secondary skin infections including infectious eczema-like dermatitis, pustular psoriasis, bacterial seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, wounds, and pustular acne. It is also effective against secondary infections caused by fungal or viral infections. This medication is used to treat various skin infections, improving the skin's health.
Apply to the affected area 1 to 4 times daily and gently rub in. If necessary, a gauze can be used to cover the area. In cases of infectious impetigo, it is advisable to apply this medication after removing crusts (scabs) to maximize contact with the infected area. Care should be taken to avoid contaminating other normal skin.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics or allergies to bacitracin. It is particularly advised not to administer to infants under the age of one. Hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or contact dermatitis can occur, so use should be stopped immediately if such symptoms develop. There may also be side effects such as kidney dysfunction or hearing loss, so long-term use is not advisable. To prevent the development of resistant strains, it is preferable to use this medication only for the minimum duration required, guided by sensitivity testing. Use of topical antibiotics can lead to overgrowth of fungi or other non-susceptible bacteria, so if skin irritation, itching, or symptoms of secondary infection occur, treatment should be discontinued, and appropriate therapy sought. Allergic reactions can occur, and if symptoms such as itching, redness, swelling, or small blisters on the skin manifest, use should be stopped immediately and monitored. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when the therapeutic effect outweighs potential risks, and caution should also be exercised during breastfeeding as there is no information regarding the transfer of this medication into breast milk. This medication is not intended for ophthalmic use, so it should not be used for eyes. Lastly, it should be stored out of the reach of children in a safe place.
