This medication is effective for various gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is also used to prevent Mendelson's syndrome before surgery and to treat gastric ulcers caused by NSAID use. Additionally, it helps improve gastric mucosal damage during acute and chronic gastritis exacerbations and aids in treating upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is effective in alleviating symptoms of excessive gastric acid, heartburn, and acid regurgitation. Overall, this medication is used to protect the gastric mucosa and regulate gastric acid secretion to improve related symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to any of its components or a history of acute porphyria. Patients with poor kidney function may experience increased serum concentrations of this medication; therefore, they need to reduce the dosage or extend the dosing interval. Patients with compromised liver function should also use this medication with caution. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions, elderly patients, and those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should be administered this medication carefully. In particular, patients with gastric ulcers or those over middle age with newly developed dyspeptic symptoms should check for gastric cancer before use. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers with Helicobacter pylori infection should undergo eradication therapy concurrently. This medication can rarely cause various side effects such as anaphylactic shock, hives, rash, blood abnormalities, liver function disorders, cardiac rhythm disturbances, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological issues, musculoskeletal pain, skin rashes, etc., so if abnormal symptoms occur, immediate discontinuation and consultation with healthcare professionals are required. During treatment, regular blood tests and assessments of liver and kidney function should be conducted to check for abnormalities. Elderly patients and those with chronic lung diseases, diabetes, or weakened immune systems should be cautious as their risk of pneumonia may increase. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs after taking this medication, activities such as driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. There may be potential interactions with other medications, especially anticoagulants or certain antibiotics; inform healthcare professionals when taking these medicines, and it may be necessary to adjust dosing intervals. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should carefully weigh the benefits and risks before using this medication. Safety in children has not been adequately established, so caution is needed. This medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, so elderly patients should adjust doses considering reduced kidney function. It may affect urine protein test results, so caution should be applied in the testing methods. Overdose rarely presents special problems, but treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary. Keep out of reach of children, and avoid transferring to other containers.
