Prevention of vitamin C deficiency and treatment of scurvy, promotion of capillary bleeding and bone healing
This medication is used to prevent and treat scurvy caused by vitamin C deficiency. It is also helpful in situations where the requirement for vitamin C increases, such as during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or heavy physical labor. It is effective for various symptoms associated with vitamin C deficiency or metabolic disorders, such as capillary bleeding, effects from certain medications, and promoting bone matrix formation and healing in fractures. Additionally, it is used to improve skin issues such as melasma, freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and photosensitivity dermatitis. Overall, it helps replenish vitamin C deficiency and improve health in various circumstances.
As ascorbic acid, administer 50 to 1,000 mg daily, divided into 1 to several doses for subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection. Adjust appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication may introduce glass particles during the process of opening the vial for injection, so care should be taken during use. Extra caution is needed when administering to children or the elderly. It contains sodium bisulfite, which may cause allergic reactions or asthma attacks in some patients; thus, it should be used with caution in asthmatic patients or those sensitive to sulfites. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, certain metabolic disorders, or specific blood disorders. Moreover, it is advisable to avoid administration in patients with kidney stones. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches may occur during administration, and high doses may increase the risk of diuresis or kidney stones. While this medication is primarily administered orally, it should only be used as an injection when oral administration is not possible, and it is preferable to switch to oral administration as soon as possible. Caution is needed when used in conjunction with other medications such as aspirin, alcohol, some antibiotics, and anticonvulsants due to potential interactions. During pregnancy, its effects on the fetus are unclear, so it should only be used when necessary, and high doses should be avoided. This medication may affect test results, so it should be noted during glucose or blood urine tests. Overdose can lead to diarrhea or kidney stones, so treatment should be stopped immediately and appropriate care sought if symptoms appear. Injection sites may cause pain, so care should be taken to avoid areas with nerve pathways and not to inject repeatedly in the same area. When given intravenously, the injection speed should be controlled slowly to prevent dizziness or vascular pain. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight in a dry and safe place, out of reach of children. It should also be stored in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
