Treatment of hypertension and stable angina
This medication is used for typical cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and stable angina.
Swallow whole with water when taking; do not divide, chew, or crush. Adults 1. Hypertension The initial dose of felodipine is 5㎎ once daily, and the maintenance dose is 5-10㎎ daily, taken orally in the morning. Do not exceed a maximum daily dose of 20㎎. This medicine may be administered in combination with a β-blocker or diuretic, and may be administered as monotherapy when other antihypertensive agents are unsuitable. Adjust the dose according to the patient's response to treatment. 2. Stable angina The initial dose is 5㎎ once daily and may be increased to 10㎎ as needed. This medicine may be administered in combination when an adequate effect is not achieved with a β-blocker. Adjust the dose according to the patient's response to treatment. 3. Elderly patients Administer with caution while monitoring the patient's condition; consider an initial dose of 2.5㎎ once daily. 4. Patients with renal impairment Renal impairment does not affect the plasma concentration of felodipine. Dose adjustment is not necessary, but administer with caution to patients with severe renal impairment (GFR<30ml/min). 5. Patients with hepatic impairment The plasma concentration of felodipine may increase in patients with hepatic impairment, and they may respond to treatment at lower doses. Therefore, administer with caution to patients with hepatic dysfunction; consider an initial dose of 2.5mg once daily. Do not administer to patients with severe hepatic dysfunction.
Safety and efficacy for children have not been established.
This medication should not be used in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. It is also not safe to administer to patients with severe hypotension, very weak heart function, or certain heart valve diseases. Caution is required for patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, those with acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina, and individuals with a history of allergy to this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to patients with genetic metabolic abnormalities such as lactose intolerance. Elderly patients or those with heart failure, hypotension, or weakened liver or kidney function should use this medication with great caution, requiring dose adjustments and monitoring of their condition. Upon initial administration or when increasing the dose, symptoms such as facial flushing, headache, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and fatigue may occur, but these are usually temporary. However, rare side effects related to the heart, blood pressure drop, skin rash, liver or kidney function abnormalities, blood abnormalities, muscle pain, and hyperglycemia may occur. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so it should be gradually reduced according to a physician's guidance. Caution is needed as blood pressure can drop sharply, and driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided if dizziness is experienced. This medication is preferably taken in the morning on an empty stomach or after a light meal. Since it may interact with other antihypertensive medications, certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antiepileptics, it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications being taken. Notably, grapefruit juice should be avoided as it can significantly increase the drug level in the body. During pregnancy, it may affect the fetus, so pregnant women should not take it, and breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking it or discontinue breastfeeding if possible. Safety for children has not been established, and there is a lack of usage experience. Severe symptoms of heart and blood pressure drop may occur in cases of overdose, so emergency treatment should be sought immediately, and gastric lavage and appropriate treatment should be carried out as needed. Dizziness or fatigue may occur while taking this medication, so caution is required during driving or operation of machinery.
