Summary

Main use
Short-term treatment of insomnia
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
This medication should be administered for a short period (usually 7-10 days), and the duration of treatment should not exceed 2-3 weeks. To achieve the greatest effect and avoid serious adverse effects, it is preferable to individualize the dose and administer the minimum effective dose. Care should be taken not to increase the prescribed dose. If the dose must be increased because there is no response at a low dose, adverse reactions are dose-dependent; therefore, administer the medication cautiously while closely monitoring the patient. 1. Adults: Depending on the patient, administer 0.125 ~ 0.25 mg of triazolam orally at bedtime. Because adverse reactions increase in a dose-dependent manner, doses exceeding 0.25 mg are not recommended. 2. Elderly and debilitated patients: Administer 0.125 mg of triazolam as the initial dose. If there is no response at a low dose, 0.25㎎ may be administered, but do not exceed 0.25 mg. 3. Discontinuation or dose reduction The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the lowest appropriate dose for the shortest possible duration and frequently reassess the need for continued treatment. Abrupt discontinuation or rapid dose reduction after continued use of this medication may cause potentially life-threatening withdrawal reactions. To reduce the risk of withdrawal reactions, discontinue this medication or reduce the dose gradually (see “1. Warnings” under Precautions for Use). If withdrawal reactions occur, consider temporarily pausing the dose reduction or increasing the dose to the previous level. Thereafter, reduce the dose more slowly.

Precautions

This medication is a sedative that helps with sleep, and patients may engage in actions such as driving or preparing food while not fully awake, which they may not remember. Caution is necessary as the risks increase when taken with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Rarely, severe allergic reactions or angioedema may occur, and if symptoms such as swelling of the tongue or throat or difficulty breathing appear, immediate consultation with healthcare personnel is required. Sudden discontinuation after long-term use may lead to severe withdrawal symptoms, so the dose should be gradually reduced according to the doctor's instructions. This medication can cause central nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or memory impairment, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery while taking it. Particularly, elderly or frail patients are more vulnerable to side effects, and care should be taken to start at lower doses. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, patients with alcohol or drug dependence, and patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma should not use this medication. Furthermore, concomitant use with certain antifungal agents or strong hepatic enzyme inhibitors may excessively increase the effects of this medication, so such combinations should be avoided. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication, and consult a physician when taking it with other central nervous system depressants. The safety of this medication has not been established in children, and there is a higher risk of side effects in the elderly, necessitating special caution. In cases of overdose, severe drowsiness, coma, respiratory depression, etc. may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment. Finally, this medication should be kept out of the reach of children and stored securely in its original container.
