Relief of acute symptoms of chronic pancreatitis; treatment of reflux esophagitis after gastrectomy
This medicine helps alleviate acute symptoms of chronic pancreatitis caused by excessive activity of proteolytic enzymes. It is also used in the treatment of reflux esophagitis that may occur after gastric resection surgery. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating pancreatitis and gastrointestinal-related issues.
○ Chronic pancreatitis Adults: Administer camostat mesilate 200mg orally 3 times daily. ○ Reflux esophagitis after gastrectomy Adults: Administer this drug 100mg per dose, 3 times daily. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with severe conditions that require dietary restrictions such as gastric suctioning, fasting, or swallowing issues. Moreover, it should not be administered to patients with postoperative reflux esophagitis caused by gastric acid reflux, as its efficacy is not expected in such cases. This medication contains lactose, and should not be used in patients with genetic problems such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Caution is advised when administering to pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, children, and the elderly. During treatment with this drug, blood tests may show increased eosinophils or, rarely, decreased leukocytes and platelets, so if these symptoms occur, the drug dosage should be reduced or discontinued. Occasionally, hypersensitivity reactions such as rash or itching may occur; if such symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include decreased appetite, nausea, dry mouth, abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, and rarely, vomiting, heartburn, or constipation may occur. Liver dysfunction may occur, resulting in elevated liver enzyme levels (AST, ALT), so periodic liver function tests are necessary. Rarely, renal dysfunction leading to increased blood BUN and creatinine levels may occur, so renal function should be meticulously monitored. Edema may occur, and rarely, electrolyte disturbances such as hypoglycemia or hyperkalemia may arise, requiring caution. If symptoms do not improve, it is advisable not to use this medication for an extended period. In pregnant women, high doses have been reported to present a risk of fetal weight reduction, so excessive dosing should be avoided. Safety in children, low-birth-weight infants, and newborns has not been established; therefore, its use is not recommended. When administered to the elderly, adverse reactions may be more severe, so it should be managed with greater caution. Lastly, this medication may discolor when compounded with certain other drugs, so it is advised to store and compound it in a separate medication container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
