This medication provides sedative effects as an adjunct treatment for insomnia. In other words, it helps those who have difficulty falling asleep or who wake up frequently. Overall, it is used to alleviate insomnia symptoms and assist in achieving restful sleep.
As doxylamine succinate, take 25 mg orally once daily, 30 minutes before bedtime. Adjust dosage as appropriate based on age and symptoms.
This medication is contraindicated for patients with respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma. Additionally, patients with glaucoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia should not take this medication. Women who are breastfeeding and children under the age of 15 should also avoid this medication. This drug contains lactose, so patients with genetic issues like galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use it. It is important not to take this medication in conjunction with drugs such as imipramine-class antidepressants, anticholinergics, or disopyramide. Co-administration with these drugs may lead to increased side effects such as urinary retention or constipation, so caution is needed. Patients are advised not to combine this medication with other drugs or take it for longer than two weeks without consulting a doctor or pharmacist. Because this medication may induce sedation and increase drowsiness, tasks requiring alertness, such as working at heights or driving a car, should be avoided. Additionally, this medication should not be taken around the time of alcohol consumption. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using this medication. This drug may sometimes cause side effects such as dry mouth and constipation due to anticholinergic effects. Since drowsiness may be induced, it is recommended to take it mainly before bedtime, and if drowsiness is severe during the day, consideration should be given to reducing the dosage. Finally, this medication should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children, and it should not be transferred from its original container to another container. This is to prevent accidental misuse and maintain the quality of the medication.
