Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Hypertension: Adults are to take atenolol as an initial dose of 50mg once daily, either alone or in combination with diuretics taken orally. If no effect is observed within 1-2 weeks, the dosage may be increased to 100mg once daily, not to exceed 100mg per day. Angina: 100mg should be taken once or divided into two doses daily, not to exceed 100mg per day. Patients with renal impairment: If the creatinine clearance is 15-35ml/min/1.73㎡, the dosage should be 5mg daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to the active ingredient or excipients. Patients with severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should avoid this medication. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis should not take this medication. Individuals with excessively slow heart rates (bradycardia) or severe conduction disturbances should not be given this medication. This medication is contraindicated for patients in cardiogenic shock with rapidly declining cardiac function, right heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension, and congestive heart failure. Patients with severe hypotension or peripheral circulation disorders should also avoid this medication. This medication is not suitable for patients with hyperthyroidism or untreated pheochromocytoma. Patients with bronchial asthma or those at risk of bronchospasm should use this medication with caution, particularly in combination with bronchodilators. Patients at risk of developing congestive heart failure should have their cardiac status monitored regularly while taking this medication. Diabetic patients or those at risk of hypoglycemia should manage their blood sugar levels carefully, as hypoglycemic symptoms may be masked, requiring special caution. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function should also use this medication with caution. Elderly patients should start with a low dose and be closely monitored. While taking this medication, side effects such as skin rash, itching, dry eyes, blurred vision, heart rhythm irregularities, dizziness, dyspepsia, etc. may occur; if any of these symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately. Especially if bradycardia or hypotensive symptoms worsen, the dosage should be adjusted or the treatment should be discontinued. Suddenly discontinuing this medication may exacerbate cardiac symptoms, so the dosage should be gradually reduced under medical supervision. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 24 hours prior to the procedure and inform the anesthesiologist about its use. Caution is needed while driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established; women who could become pregnant should take this medication cautiously, and breastfeeding should be avoided or breastfeeding should be stopped if possible. Safety in pediatric patients has not been adequately established. In cases of overdose, risks such as a decrease in heart rate, hypotension, bronchospasm, and hypoglycemia may occur, and medical attention should be sought immediately. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be stored at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius. Transferring the medication to other containers may lead to quality degradation or accidents, so caution is advised.
