This medication helps relieve symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux and hiatal hernia, as well as gastrointestinal dysfunction symptoms caused by gastric and duodenal inflammation or ulcers, including abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea, and vomiting. It also improves abdominal discomfort caused by irritable bowel syndrome and spastic colon. In children, it is used to relieve symptoms of habitual vomiting and non-infectious intestinal pain and disorders like constipation or diarrhea. It is effective for a variety of gastrointestinal-related diseases and symptom improvement.

How to take

Adult dose

As trimebutine maleate, 100-200 mg per oral dose, taken 3 times a day before meals. Adjust as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication contains lactose and should not be used by individuals with genetic problems digesting lactose. For instance, patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption disorders should avoid this medication. When taking this medication, gastrointestinal-related side effects such as constipation or diarrhea, sounds from the intestines, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, dry mouth or numbness in the mouth may occur rarely. Additionally, symptoms related to the nervous system such as palpitations, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, and headache may also occur rarely. Rarely, an increase in liver function test values may be reported, and if allergic reactions such as skin rashes occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been sufficiently established, thus women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only take this medication when the benefits of treatment are believed to outweigh the risks. Women who are breastfeeding should also avoid taking this medication if possible, and if it is absolutely necessary to take, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding. Lastly, this medication contains the dye yellow 4, so patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to this ingredient should use it with caution.

Side effects and when to seek care immediately

Mild side effects

  • Constipation, diarrhea, abdominal sound, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, dry mouth, numbness in the mouth may occur.
  • Palpitations, fatigue, drowsiness, dizziness, lethargy, headache, elevated GOT, GPT, and rashes may occur rarely.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Storage

This medication is sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, the medication should be kept at room temperature, which is not too hot or too cold, i.e., between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius.
