Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
To achieve the greatest benefit, determine the dose for each individual. The usual daily doses listed below are suitable for most patients, but higher doses may be required. In such cases, increase the dose gradually to avoid adverse effects. The risk of dependence may increase with the dose and duration of treatment. Therefore, administer the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible period and frequently reassess the need to continue treatment. 1. As the initial dose, administer 0.25-0.5㎎ of alprazolam per dose 3 times daily, with a maximum dose of 4㎎ per day. For elderly patients, patients with hepatic impairment, and debilitated patients, the initial dose is 0.25㎎ per dose 2-3 times daily. Reduce the dose if adverse effects occur at the initial dose. 2. Psychosomatic disorders Administer 1.2㎎ of this medicine per day orally in 3 divided doses. If increasing the dose, increase it gradually up to a maximum of 2.4㎎ per day and administer orally in 3-4 divided doses. For elderly patients, the initial dose is 0.4㎎ per dose 1-2 times daily, with a maximum dose of 1.2㎎ per day. 3. Panic disorder Start with an initial dose of 0.5㎎ of this medicine and, depending on the patient's response to treatment, increase the dose by no more than 1㎎ at intervals of 3-4 days, to an average total daily dose of 5-6㎎ administered in 3-4 divided doses. When discontinuing treatment, reduce the dose by no more than 0.5㎎, usually at 3-day intervals; a slower reduction may be necessary in some cases.

1. Precautions

This medication is a benzodiazepine that acts on the central nervous system, producing a sedative effect. Caution is advised when taking it in combination with narcotics, as this can lead to respiratory depression, coma, and, in severe cases, death. Since this drug has a risk of misuse and dependency, patients must adhere to the proper dosage under medical supervision and safely store or dispose of any remaining medication. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it or similar drugs or have certain conditions (acute closed-angle glaucoma, severe myasthenia gravis, severe respiratory failure, severe liver failure, etc.). Patients with impaired cardiac, liver, or kidney function, elderly patients, and frail individuals should take it cautiously with dose adjustments due to an increased risk of side effects. Taking this medication may cause drowsiness, decreased concentration, and reduced motor skills; therefore, driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Regular blood tests and liver function tests are recommended with long-term use. Abrupt cessation can lead to withdrawal symptoms or seizures, so dosage should be reduced gradually under medical guidance. This medication may manifest manic or hypomanic symptoms in patients with depression, requiring careful monitoring. Combining it with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may enhance sedative effects and is therefore not advised. During the later stages of pregnancy, it should not be taken as it may pose risks to the fetus, and during breastfeeding, it may pass into breast milk affecting the newborn, so either discontinue breastfeeding or avoid taking the medication. Safety in pediatric patients under 18 years has not been established, so its use is not advisable. In cases of overdose, severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, and coma may occur; therefore, immediate emergency care is required. Store this medication out of reach of children and in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
