Effectiveness in disinfecting highly contaminated instruments and virus-contaminated containers
Glutaraldehyde solution is used for disinfecting various medical instruments at different concentrations. The 2% solution is effective for disinfecting instruments contaminated by microorganisms or organic materials, especially those that come into direct contact with subcutaneous tissue or mucous membranes, and can be used for instruments with a risk of hepatitis B virus infection. Examples include endoscopes, anesthesia devices, ventilators, artificial dialysis equipment, surgical instruments, obstetrical and urological instruments, dental instruments, syringes, thermometers, and rubber and plastic instruments that are difficult to sterilize. In contrast, the 0.5% solution is used to safely disinfect other instruments. This solution is suitable for sterilization of anesthesia equipment, artificial dialysis instruments, surgical room instruments, etc. Therefore, glutaraldehyde solution is widely used in healthcare settings for the safe disinfection of various instruments and infection prevention.
