This medication is used when other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are ineffective or insufficient. It is mainly applicable for chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used for chronic musculoskeletal pain such as low back pain, shoulder periarthritis, and adhesive capsulitis. It is administered only in these cases to alleviate symptoms.
Dosage
Oral: As piroxicam, take 20 mg once a day orally. The maximum recommended dose per day is 20 mg of piroxicam, and treatment should use the minimum effective dose for the shortest duration to reduce the risk of adverse reactions. The therapeutic effects and tolerability of the medication should be assessed within 14 days of administration, and if continued treatment is necessary, frequent assessments are required. This medication may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, so caution is necessary for individuals with a history of heart disease or stroke, or those with risk factors. If cardiovascular symptoms occur while taking this medication, immediate medical attention should be sought, and careful monitoring should be undertaken even in the absence of symptoms. This medication can cause serious side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforation, especially in individuals on long-term treatment or the elderly. If symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding or discomfort occur during treatment, the medication should be immediately discontinued and medical advice sought. Severe rashes or allergic reactions may occur on the skin, so careful observation of skin condition is required during the first month of treatment. If severe skin adverse reactions occur, the use of this medication should be ceased immediately. Those with gastrointestinal ulcers, bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, severe liver or kidney impairment, heart failure, or severe hypertension should not take this medication. Individuals who have had allergic reactions to aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use this medication. This medication is not administered to pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, elderly individuals over 80 years old, or children. Individuals with peptic ulcers or issues with kidney or liver function, hypertension, asthma, or a history of hypersensitivity should use this medication with caution. During treatment, abnormal symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiovascular symptoms, skin rashes, or difficulty breathing should be closely monitored. This medication may raise blood pressure or worsen existing hypertension, so blood pressure should be checked regularly. It may also impair kidney function, so if symptoms such as decreased urine output, swelling, or hematuria occur, immediate medical attention should be sought. There are many potential drug interactions, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform healthcare providers, especially when used alongside anticoagulants, diuretics, lithium, or methotrexate. This medication should not be used particularly in late pregnancy as it may be harmful to the fetus, and it should be avoided during breastfeeding as it can be transmitted through breast milk. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal bleeding may occur, so the prescribed dose must be strictly adhered to. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
