Improvement of conditions through hydration and electrolyte replenishment and energy supply before and after surgery
This medication is used to supplement the necessary fluids and electrolytes required for dehydration or before and after surgery. It also assists in providing energy to the body. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating symptoms caused by dehydration and supporting recovery. Patients can improve their condition by taking this medication when they have fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
Typically, 500–1,000mL is administered by slow intravenous infusion for adults. The infusion rate should not exceed 0.5g per kg of body weight per hour for dextrose. The dosage and infusion rate should be adjusted according to age, weight, and symptoms.
This medication may increase the consumption of vitamin B1 in the body when administered intravenously, which can lead to severe deficiency, so caution is advised. Allergic reactions may occur with this medication; if symptoms appear, administration should be immediately discontinued and appropriate treatment should be sought. Due to potassium content, there is a risk of elevated serum potassium levels, so patients with renal impairment or heart disease should be especially cautious and frequently check serum potassium levels. For patients with difficulty controlling blood sugar, blood glucose may rise sharply; therefore, periodic monitoring of blood glucose levels is necessary, and insulin should be adjusted if needed. Sodium and chloride are also included and can cause electrolyte imbalances or fluid overload, so hypertensive or heart failure patients should be especially careful, and serum electrolytes and fluid status should be continuously monitored. This medication can cause hyponatremia, so it is particularly important to monitor serum sodium levels in children, elderly, postoperative patients, and those with mental illness. Pulmonary edema or congestive states may occur due to fluid overload; therefore, careful management of fluid balance is crucial. When administered to patients with severe nutritional deficiency, a serious complication known as refeeding syndrome may occur, so it is important to gradually replenish nutrition and closely monitor the patient's condition. Patients with hyperkalemia, renal impairment, hyperglycemia, fluid overload, or a history of hypersensitivity should not receive this medication. Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment, heart disease, urinary obstruction, or electrolyte abnormalities, and frequently monitor the condition. In case of overdose, immediate discontinuation is necessary, and serum potassium levels should be regulated along with appropriate treatment, which may include hemodialysis if needed. This medication can affect blood glucose, electrolytes, and fluid balance; therefore, regular monitoring is essential. Interactions with other medications may occur, especially when used in conjunction with potassium-sparing diuretics or glucose control medications, so caution is required. Special precautions are necessary for pregnant or lactating women, as well as neonates, children, and the elderly, and blood glucose and electrolyte status should be monitored closely. To prevent risks associated with air in the container during administration, do not connect continuously, and store at room temperature.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air or moisture from entering. This will help maintain the medication's efficacy for an extended period.
