How to take

Adult dose

1. Hypertension: Adults are to take 50 mg of atenolol once daily, either alone or in combination with a diuretic. If there is no effect within 1-2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily. Do not exceed 100 mg per day. 2. Angina: 100 mg is to be taken once or twice a day, not to exceed 100 mg per day. 3. Patients with kidney impairment: Creatinine clearance of 15-35 ml/min, dose 50 mg once daily; if <15 ml/min, dose 25 mg once daily or 50 mg every two days.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, individuals who are allergic to the main ingredient or excipients of this medication, patients with severe asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe bradycardia (very slow heart rate), severe heart block, severe heart failure, severe hypotension, and severe peripheral vascular disease should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis, patients with right heart failure due to pulmonary hypertension, individuals suspected of having thyrotoxicosis, those with untreated specific tumors (pheochromocytoma), and those with lactose intolerance should also avoid this medication. This medication should be used cautiously in patients with a risk of asthma or bronchospasm, those at risk of congestive heart failure, patients with poorly controlled diabetes, individuals with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, and the elderly, under careful medical supervision. During administration, side effects such as skin rash, itching, reduced tear secretion, visual disturbances, irregular heartbeat, hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, and difficulty breathing may occur, so if any of these symptoms arise, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is essential. This medication requires regular monitoring of heart function, blood pressure, and ECG if taken for a long time, and it should be tapered gradually to prevent worsening of heart disease symptoms upon sudden discontinuation. Patients scheduled for surgery must inform healthcare personnel of their use of this medication, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating hazardous machinery during initial treatment. This medication may interact with other drugs, so consultation with a doctor is necessary when taken in conjunction with antihypertensives, diabetes medications, calcium channel blockers, anesthetics, etc. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only take this medication under the guidance of a healthcare provider, as it may cause side effects in the fetus or newborn, and breastfeeding should be avoided if possible while on this medication.
