This medication is used to treat hypertension and angina. Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

1. Hypertension: The initial adult dose is 50mg of atenolol once daily, alone or in combination with a diuretic (thiazide type) administered orally. Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to the active ingredient or any excipients. Patients with severe bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should also refrain from using this medication. It should not be administered to patients with diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis. While taking this medication, patients may experience adverse reactions such as skin rashes, itching, dry eyes or vision disturbances, bradycardia, hypotension, symptoms of heart failure, confusion, dizziness, gastrointestinal disorders, and shortness of breath, and should consult a healthcare professional immediately if these symptoms arise. Long-term users should have their heart function, blood pressure, and pulse checked regularly, and should taper off medication slowly following a doctor's guidance, as sudden discontinuation may worsen heart-related symptoms. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 24 hours prior and use anesthetics that minimize cardiac suppression during anesthesia. During initial use of this medication, patients may experience dizziness, therefore avoiding driving or operating dangerous machinery is advisable. There may be interactions with other medications, so caution is required when taking it with insulin, calcium antagonists, sympatholytics, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should consult a doctor before using this medication, and breastfeeding mothers should avoid it or discontinue breastfeeding if possible.
