Preanesthetic medication; relief of neurosis and psychosomatic disorders (e.g., anxiety and tension)
This medication is used to improve symptoms of anxiety, tension, and depression caused by psychoneurosis or psychosomatic disorders. It is also used to calm anxiety in patients prior to surgery or anesthesia. This medication is not needed for mild anxiety due to everyday stress and should only be used when symptoms are severe or significantly disrupt the patient's daily life. Therefore, it effectively helps treat severe anxiety or symptoms related to psychosomatic disorders.
Adults: Administer 1 ∼ 4 mg of lorazepam per day orally in 2 ∼ 3 divided doses. For neurosis and psychosomatic disorders, up to 10 mg per day may be administered. Adjust the dose appropriately according to symptoms.
This medication should only be used in minimal doses for a short duration when absolutely necessary, as taking it with narcotics can lead to severe drowsiness, respiratory distress, decreased consciousness, and even death. There is a risk of abuse and addiction with this medication, so it must be taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor, and any remaining medication should be stored safely or disposed of properly. This medication should not be used in patients with muscle weakness disorders, certain eye diseases, severe respiratory problems, alcohol addiction, children, pregnant women, or other specific patients. Patients with decreased cardiac, liver, or kidney function, elderly individuals, and those with depression must use this medication with extra caution and should take it carefully as directed by a doctor. This medication can cause drowsiness and decreased concentration, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery, and regular health checks should be done during long-term use. Taking it with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol may exacerbate side effects, so caution is advised not to take them together. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and nursing mothers should consult with a doctor as well. It is advisable not to use this medication in children, as its safety has not been established, and elderly patients should start with a lower dosage due to the higher likelihood of experiencing side effects. In case of overdose, immediate medical assistance should be sought for appropriate treatment, and the medication should be kept out of reach of children.
