Preanesthetic medication; relief of neurosis and psychosomatic disorders (e.g., anxiety and tension)
This medication is used to alleviate anxiety, tension, and depressive symptoms caused by neurosis or psychosomatic disorders. It also helps reduce anxiety and tension when administered prior to anesthesia. It is not used for mild anxiety related to everyday stress and is administered only when the symptoms are severe or significantly interfere with the patient's daily life. Overall, this medication is effective in improving psychological discomfort and stabilizing the patient's condition.
Adults: Administer 1 ∼ 4 mg of lorazepam daily orally in 2 ∼ 3 divided doses. For neurosis and psychosomatic disorders, up to 10 mg daily may be administered. Adjust the dose appropriately according to symptoms.
This medication should be used with caution as it can cause severe drowsiness, respiratory arrest, coma, or even death if taken with narcotics or similar substances. As this medication carries a risk of misuse and dependence, it should only be used according to the physician's instructions at the appropriate dosage and duration, and any unused medication should be stored and disposed of safely. Patients with myasthenia gravis, acute glaucoma, severe respiratory failure, alcohol or drug dependence, children under 12 years of age, and pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take this medication. Patients with cardiac, liver, or kidney issues, elderly people, and those with depression should use this medication with caution, as should individuals with a history of allergies. This medication may induce psychological and physical dependence; thus, if suddenly stopped, withdrawal symptoms such as seizures, hallucinations, or anxiety may occur, and the dosage should be gradually reduced. During treatment, drowsiness or dizziness may occur, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided, and regular blood and liver function tests should be conducted during long-term use. Taking the medication with other sedatives, narcotic analgesics, or antidepressants may enhance the central nervous system depressant effect, so it is essential to consult a physician. Pregnant or nursing women should ideally avoid this medication, and if unavoidable, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Children and elderly individuals may be more sensitive to this medication, requiring dosage adjustments and careful observation. In case of overdose, immediate hospital visit for appropriate treatment is required, and this medication should be kept out of reach of children.
