Adult dose

Adults: Administer 30-75㎎ of amitriptyline hydrochloride daily orally in 2-3 divided doses, gradually increasing the dose to 150㎎ daily if needed. In rare cases, the dose may be increased to 300㎎ daily. For nocturnal enuresis, administer 10-30㎎ daily before bedtime. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.

This medication is an antidepressant used to treat psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder. This medication can particularly increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors in children, adolescents, and young adults aged 18 to 24, so careful consideration by a physician is needed when prescribing it to patients in this age group. This medication should not be administered to patients with heart disease, glaucoma, central nervous system depression, urinary disorders, arrhythmia, cerebral damage, agranulocytosis, those taking MAO inhibitors, and patients with lactose intolerance. It should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy, heart failure, hyperthyroidism, women of childbearing potential, elderly patients, and those with a predisposition to schizophrenia, requiring strict observation and management by a physician. Various side effects may occur during the use of this medication, including muscle rigidity, fever, altered consciousness, seizures, hyponatremia, paralytic ileus, myocardial infarction, anxiety, insomnia, thirst, constipation, rash, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, etc. If any symptoms occur, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. The effect of this medication usually appears within 4 to 10 days, but it may take up to 6 weeks, so it should be taken consistently. Sudden discontinuation may lead to a relapse of symptoms. While taking this medication, drowsiness or decreased concentration may occur, so activities such as driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided.
