Precautions

Caution is advised when exceeding the recommended dosage, as this may cause seizures. Patients with a history of epilepsy or seizure risk should use this medication only when absolutely necessary. Prolonged use may lead to psychological and physical dependence, so patients with a history of substance abuse or dependence should be administered this medication for a short duration under strict supervision. Concomitant use with alcohol or central nervous system depressants such as benzodiazepines should be avoided or used very cautiously, as this could lead to severe drowsiness, respiratory depression, coma, or death. Patients with certain genotypes may metabolize this medication rapidly, increasing the risk of respiratory depression, so dosing adjustments and symptom monitoring are necessary for these patients. This medication should not be used in children under 12 years old or in those under 18 who have undergone tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, and it should also be avoided in children aged 12 to 18 if there are special risk factors. It may cause sleep apnea or hypoxia, so sleep patterns should be carefully monitored while using this medication, and the dosage may need to be reduced or discontinued if symptoms worsen. This medication should not be administered to patients with acute alcohol intoxication, central nervous system drug overdose, severe respiratory depression, head trauma, those who have recently taken MAO inhibitors, severe renal or hepatic impairment, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with hypersensitivity to this medication or opioids. Caution is necessary when taking together with morphine or when being administered repeatedly, as withdrawal symptoms may occur. Patients with liver or kidney impairment may require dose adjustments. Drowsiness and dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Drug interactions may exacerbate central nervous system depressant effects; therefore, when used with other central nervous system depressants, the dosage should be reduced, and symptoms should be closely monitored. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication; if breastfeeding, caution is advised as excessive sedation or respiratory depression symptoms may occur in the infant. In case of overdose, severe respiratory depression, seizures, and coma may occur, thus immediate emergency measures should be taken, and an antidote should be used if necessary. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it should be kept in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.
