Disinfection of hands and skin and prevention of infection in surgical areas
This medication is available in various concentrations for the purpose of disinfecting hands and skin. The 4% solution is primarily suitable for the disinfection of the hands of surgeons and healthcare workers during operations. The 5% solution can be used for disinfection of hands and skin as well as surgical sites, medical equipment, furniture, and instruments. The 20% solution, in addition to the uses of the 5% solution, is also effective for skin disinfection of the vulva and external genitalia in gynecology and urology. Additionally, the cream form is effective for disinfecting narrow areas of skin wounds. Overall, this medication is used in various settings for hygiene and infection prevention by disinfecting skin and equipment.
(4% Solution) 1. Hand disinfection during surgery: Apply 5 mL of this medication to the hands and up to the elbows and rub for about 3 minutes using a brush or sponge. Pay particular attention to the nails, between the fingers, and the areas of the epidermis. Rinse with warm water, then wash again with 5 mL of this medication for 3 minutes, rinse thoroughly with water, and dry completely. 2. Hand disinfection for healthcare workers: Apply 5 mL of this medication to the hands and up to the elbows.
This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine. Areas in direct contact with nerves, such as the brain, spinal cord, and ears, should be avoided as this medication can cause hearing loss or nerve damage. Care should be taken when using it on mucous membranes, such as in the vagina, bladder, and mouth, as severe allergic reactions may occur. It should never be allowed to come into contact with the eyes as it can cause serious damage. Patients with a history of allergies to other medications or allergic diseases such as asthma should use this drug with caution. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication. This drug is for external use only and must never be ingested or injected. If accidentally ingested, immediate appropriate treatment should be sought, especially if administered intravenously, as it poses a risk and requires immediate care. If it comes into contact with the eyes, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water, and in severe cases, professional treatment may be necessary. It is advisable not to use this drug on extensive wounds or burn areas, particularly in newborns or premature infants where the risk of side effects is higher. When using over long periods or on large areas, care should be taken to avoid inhaling vapors. This medication may lose its effectiveness if it comes into contact with soap or organic matters, so it is important to clean the area before use.
