This medication is used to treat various endocrine disorders, such as primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency, acute adrenal insufficiency, and adrenal crisis syndrome. It is also used as a short-term adjunct therapy to prevent acute progression or exacerbation of rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, polyarthritis, osteoarthritis, and acute gouty arthritis. It improves skin conditions such as pemphigus, severe psoriasis, and neurodermatitis, and is effective for allergic conditions like bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, serum sickness, and urticaria. Additionally, it is used for systemic lupus erythematosus, acute rheumatic myocarditis, collagen diseases, ocular diseases like iritis, blood disorders such as ulcerative colitis, acquired hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, as well as edema-related conditions such as nephrotic syndrome. It is also helpful in severe infectious conditions or as a temporary measure for leukemia and Hodgkin's disease. In summary, this drug is widely used for improving symptoms and reducing inflammation in various diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

As dexamethasone, typically for adults, 0.5-8mg is administered orally in 1-4 divided doses per day. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

As dexamethasone, typically for children, 0.15-4mg is administered orally in 1-4 divided doses per day. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this medication or any of its components, those who have received live vaccines, patients with herpes simplex, herpes zoster, or chickenpox, and those with infectious diseases or systemic fungal infections that do not have effective antimicrobial agents should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this medication. This medication should be administered with caution to patients with various conditions such as glaucoma, tuberculosis, hypertension, thromboembolic disorders, peptic ulcers, psychiatric disorders, and osteoporosis. These patients may experience exacerbation of symptoms due to side effects of this drug, so the decision to use it should be made based on a physician's judgment. Prolonged use of this medication may result in various side effects such as adrenal insufficiency, increased blood glucose, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal disturbances, mental disorders, muscle weakness, skin problems, fluid retention, and requires careful monitoring. Particularly during the use of this medication, there is an increased susceptibility to infections, and symptoms of infection may be masked, so careful infection management is necessary. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the potential effects on the fetus when using this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment. In children and adolescents, side effects such as growth retardation may occur, so the lowest effective dose should be used and growth should be closely monitored.   • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, cough with fever → respiratory issues.
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), profound fatigue → liver dysfunction.

Mild side effects

Infections, secondary adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, menstrual irregularities, suppression of adrenocorticotropic hormone secretion, Cushing's syndrome, buffalo hump, peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, pancreatitis, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, abdominal distension, thirst, loss of appetite, increased appetite, psychiatric disorders, depression, euphoria, insomnia, headache, dizziness, seizures, osteoporosis, avascular necrosis of the femoral and humeral heads, myopathy.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a container that prevents light exposure. Additionally, it is important to store the medication at a temperature between 1°C and 30°C to maintain its effectiveness.
