Precautions

This drug is a thyroid hormone agent, and it is not appropriate for people with normal thyroid function to use it alone or with other medications for weight loss purposes. Particularly, using it with sympathomimetic agents that suppress appetite can result in serious side effects, making it very dangerous. Patients with acute heart disease, adrenal insufficiency, or thyrotoxicosis should not use this medication. Patients with heart disease or elderly individuals, as well as those with diabetes or diabetes insipidus, should use this drug with caution, starting with a low dose for safety. If symptoms of hyperthyroidism such as chest pain, increased heart rate, or nervousness occur during treatment, the medication should be stopped immediately. In case of overdose, symptoms such as menstrual irregularities, arrhythmia, and angina may occur, so caution is needed. This medication regulates thyroid function, so regular blood tests are required to check thyroid hormone levels. Changes in thyroid function may affect the effectiveness of blood coagulation medications, so patients taking anticoagulants may need to adjust their doses. For patients with cardiovascular diseases, there may be an exacerbation of chest pain or other heart problems, requiring dose adjustment and caution. Diabetes, diabetes insipidus, and adrenal insufficiency patients may experience exacerbation of symptoms, thus appropriate treatment should accompany this medication. Additionally, biotin may affect thyroid function test results, so patients should inform the testing facility if they are taking it. This drug may interact with various medications; therefore, caution is needed especially when used with anticoagulants, antihyperglycemics, calcium preparations, and proton pump inhibitors. It is advisable not to discontinue this medication during pregnancy, and although it is excreted in small amounts in breast milk, severe side effects have not been reported but caution is still necessary. In children, a deficiency of thyroid hormone can lead to problems in growth and development; therefore, regular check-ups are necessary as excessive dosing can cause side effects such as craniostenosis. In the case of overdose, symptoms similar to hyperthyroidism may appear, so the medication should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment obtained. This medication may rarely cause serious side effects, so if any unusual symptoms occur during use, consult a healthcare professional.
