This medication is used for various skin conditions caused by gentamicin-sensitive bacteria, including secondary infections of the skin, such as eczema, contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, chronic simple eczema, lichen planus, and exfoliative dermatitis.
Apply to the affected area once or twice daily and rub in carefully. Once symptoms improve, apply once daily.
This medication should not be administered to patients with infectious diseases such as skin tuberculosis, herpes simplex, chickenpox, shingles, vaccinia, and syphilis, as it may worsen the infection. Patients who have experienced allergic reactions to this medication or its ingredients should also avoid its use. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with eczematous otitis externa who have a perforated tympanic membrane, as it may delay wound healing and increase the risk of infection. Patients with skin ulcers should be cautious as this medication may impede skin regeneration and prolong healing time. In cases of skin infections caused by viruses, bacteria, or fungi, the immunosuppressive effects may exacerbate the infection, so it should not be used. This medication is also unsuitable for patients with injections, acne, or perioral dermatitis. Patients allergic to specific antibiotics should be cautioned as allergic reactions may occur with the use of this medication. This medication contains an ingredient called propylene glycol, which requires cautious use in patients with allergies or sensitivities to this compound. The occurrence of fungal or bacterial infections on the skin during use may necessitate appropriate treatment or discontinuation of use if symptoms arise. Long-term use may lead to side effects such as acne, thinning of the skin, or dilation of capillaries, so it is advisable to gradually reduce the dosage and switch to another medication. If allergic reactions occur, such as skin irritation, rash, itching, or dryness, use should be immediately discontinued. When used extensively or for prolonged periods, it may suppress pituitary and adrenal function, requiring caution. Caution is also advised when applying around the eyes due to the risk of increased intraocular pressure or glaucoma. Long-term use can lead to renal dysfunction or hearing loss, so prolonged use is best avoided. There is a rare risk of infection caused by resistant microorganisms during use, and if symptoms worsen, usage should be discontinued. The ingredient sodium benzoate may cause mild irritation to skin, eyes, or mucous membranes, so caution should be exercised when used on sensitive areas. In case of extensive or prolonged use, particularly with occlusive techniques, systemic suppression of adrenal cortex function can occur and should be avoided unless specifically required. Special consideration should be given when applying to thin or folded areas of the skin such as the face, neck, and genital areas, as the risk of side effects like skin thinning or erythema must be assessed. If any allergic reactions occur, immediate discontinuation of use and observation of symptoms is necessary. Extra caution should be taken when applying around the eyes and genitals, and it is advisable to discontinue use as soon as improvement is observed. Consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary if blurry vision or visual disturbances occur after systemic or topical corticosteroid use. Prolonged inappropriate use may lead to severe redness and stinging of the skin after discontinuation, and caution must be exercised. This medication may cause cross-reactivity with specific antibiotics, so caution is warranted when used concurrently. During pregnancy, due to unestablished safety, extensive or prolonged use should be avoided, and it is recommended to apply as small an area as possible for a short duration. During breastfeeding, extensive or prolonged use should be avoided and the benefits and risks of breastfeeding versus medication use should be carefully considered when necessary. In children or infants, long-term extensive use or occlusive techniques may result in growth retardation, requiring careful attention. Elderly patients may be at higher risk for adverse reactions, so extra caution is needed when using occlusive techniques on large areas for prolonged periods. Excessive dosing may increase adverse reactions, and extensive use on wounded or damaged skin may be toxic to the kidneys and ears, so caution is advisable. This medication should not be used for ophthalmic purposes and should not be applied after shaving or for purposes other than treatment.
