Efficacy for acute and chronic constipation and bowel preparation before and after surgery
Used for acute and chronic constipation as well as for removing bowel movements before and after surgery, and during X-ray examinations.
As Bisacodyl, take 10 mg once daily at bedtime. Depending on symptoms, the dose may be increased to 15 mg.
This medication should not be taken by individuals with certain conditions or diseases. For example, those allergic to this drug or its components, those suffering from acute abdominal conditions, those with intestinal paralysis or obstruction should not take this medication. Additionally, individuals with spastic constipation or severe hard stool, those with anal wounds, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing women should also avoid taking this medication. If there are severe dehydration, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, this medication should be avoided. This medication contains lactose; therefore, individuals with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take it. Individuals with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to the ingredient Yellow No. 4 (tartrazine) should take this medication with caution. While taking this medication, it should not be taken with diuretics, corticosteroids, or drugs that induce polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, and it should also be avoided within one hour of taking antacids or milk. Children should not take this medication without a doctor's prescription, and for the elderly, the dosage should be reduced or taken cautiously due to decreased physiological function. If symptoms of angioedema, anaphylaxis, convulsions, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or fainting occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately, and medical advice should be sought. This medication should not be chewed and is an irritant laxative, so prolonged use may lead to tolerance or worsening of constipation, and it is advisable not to use it continuously for more than one week. Excessive dosing can cause side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and electrolyte loss, and chronic overuse poses risks of hypokalemia, kidney damage, and muscle weakness. In cases of overdose, induce vomiting or perform gastric lavage to decrease drug absorption as soon as possible, and if necessary, receive fluid and electrolyte correction treatment. For the treatment of constipation, it is important to combine this medication with a diet rich in fiber, adequate hydration, and regular lifestyle habits. Before and after surgery or when bowel movement removal is needed, this medication should be used under the supervision of healthcare professionals. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, in its original container, away from direct sunlight, and in a cool, dry place.
