Overall, it improves various vitamin B6 deficiencies and related disorders.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As pyridoxine hydrochloride, administer 10 to 100 mg daily in 1 to 2 divided doses by intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous injection. In cases of vitamin B6 dependence, higher doses may be administered. Adjust dosages appropriately based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

When using this drug as an injection, care should be taken as glass pieces may mix when breaking the glass ampoule. Special caution is required when administering to children or the elderly. Individuals with allergic reactions to this drug or any of its ingredients should not use it. Additionally, patients taking levodopa should not use this drug. When using it orally, patients receiving treatment from a doctor or those taking medications that increase the need for vitamin B6 should administer it with caution. Using this medication may cause light sensitivity, nausea, headache, and drowsiness. Long-term use of high doses may lead to neurological issues, which may take several months to improve. When injected, discomfort or pain may occur at the injection site. Caution should be exercised when administering large amounts to newborns or infants as it may cause severe side effects such as muscle damage and renal dysfunction; should any abnormalities arise, administration should be discontinued immediately. When taken orally, the prescribed dosage and method must be strictly followed. If symptoms do not improve or worsen after more than a month of use, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is required. High-dose use during pregnancy may affect the newborn, so care should be taken. Especially in newborns or infants, administration should start with small amounts and gradually increase. After long-term high-dose use, it should not be suddenly discontinued but gradually reduced to prevent temporary dependence. This drug may reduce the effectiveness of levodopa, so it should not be used together. Additionally, some medications may increase the need for vitamin B6, so it is important to inform the healthcare provider if you are taking any other medications. Using this drug together with specific anticancer agents used in the treatment of ovarian cancer may reduce neurotoxicity, but it could shorten the treatment duration, hence it is advisable not to use them together. If pregnant or breastfeeding, high-dose use of this drug may affect the newborn, so consultation with a doctor is essential. Caution is required when administering large doses to newborns or infants as it may cause side effects such as muscle damage, diarrhea, vomiting, and liver dysfunction.
