View approved original text

This medication helps improve symptoms associated with ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid. It neutralizes stomach acid through its antacid effect and protects the stomach lining, alleviating discomfort. This aids patients in effectively managing symptoms such as indigestion or heartburn. It is used to improve gastrointestinal health.

How to take

Adult dose

As aluminum hydroxide, take 300-600 mg orally three times a day between meals. Adjust dosage as appropriate based on age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients undergoing dialysis treatment. This is because long-term use can lead to the accumulation of aluminum in the body, potentially causing issues in the brain and bones. Particular caution should be taken when used in patients with phosphate deficiency or impaired kidney function. Patients with weakened kidney function may be at risk of aluminum-related side effects if this medication is taken for a long time; therefore, blood tests should be conducted regularly to monitor aluminum, phosphorus, calcium, and alkaline phosphatase levels. When taking this medication, constipation may occur frequently, and, rarely, nausea or vomiting may happen. If these symptoms occur, the dose should be reduced or temporarily stopped, and measures such as using laxatives if necessary should be taken. Long-term use of this medication is not recommended, and patients with a history of kidney disease should consult a doctor or pharmacist before use. Additionally, this medication can interfere with the absorption of certain antibiotics, specifically tetracycline-class drugs, so it is advisable not to take them together. This medication changes the acidity (pH) of the gastrointestinal environment and bodily fluids, which may affect the absorption or excretion of other drugs; therefore, caution should be exercised if other medications are being taken.
