It is also used to provide necessary fluids and energy for the recovery of patients' physical strength and maintenance of stability before and after surgery. Therefore, it is utilized for improving conditions related to liver disease, diabetes, and surgical states.
How it is given
Adult administration
As D-sorbitol, typically administer 4 to 50 g slowly by intravenous injection or intravenous drip once to several times a day. The maximum daily dosage is 100 g. The intravenous drip rate should be kept at or below 0.5 g/kg per hour. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
Precautions
This medication comes in ampoule form, and there is a risk of glass fragments getting mixed in when cutting the glass container for use. If glass fragments enter the body, it can cause adverse reactions, so extreme caution is necessary when cutting the container. Extra care should be taken when administering to children or the elderly. This medication should not be administered to patients with hypertonic dehydration, hereditary fructose intolerance, or allergies to this medicine or its ingredients. Caution should also be exercised when using this medication in patients with diabetes insipidus. Administering this medication in large or rapid doses may lead to electrolyte imbalance, so caution is required. The elderly may have diminished bodily functions, so additional consideration is needed when administering this medication. Lastly, this medication must be administered only by intravenous injection and should not be used in any other way.
