This medication is used to relieve symptoms of motion sickness, Meniere's disease, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by radiation hangover. It is also effective for nausea and vomiting symptoms after surgery. The chewable form helps prevent and alleviate dizziness, vomiting, and headaches caused by motion sickness. Overall, this drug is used to treat nausea and vomiting symptoms and dizziness from various causes.
How to take
Adult dose
Administer 50mg of dimenhydrinate orally 3-4 times daily. For preventive purposes, administer 50-100mg 30 minutes to 1 hour prior. Do not exceed 200mg per day. For the chewable form, chew 20mg as soon as discomfort arises from symptoms.
Child dose
For chewable form, chew 10mg as soon as discomfort arises from symptoms in children aged 4 to 12 years.
Precautions
This medication should not be used in patients taking certain medications. For example, it should not be administered to patients taking MAO inhibitors, those with hypersensitivity to this drug, or those with prostatic hypertrophy or urinary disorders. Additionally, patients with angle-closure glaucoma or epilepsy, and those with lactose intolerance or related genetic conditions should not take this medication. Children, patients with epilepsy, hyperthyroidism, and acute nephritis should use this drug cautiously. Patients who are about to undergo anesthesia may also experience delayed wake-up times when using this medication, so caution is needed. Taking this medication may result in neurological side effects such as drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, visual disturbances, and insomnia. If any allergic reactions such as skin rashes or photosensitivity occur, discontinue use immediately. Gastrointestinal issues such as heartburn or stomach pain, urinary disorders, dry mouth, and fatigue may also be experienced. Since drowsiness may occur while taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery. When taken with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol, side effects may be exacerbated, so dose adjustment or careful use is necessary. Also, there may be a risk of hearing loss when taken with certain antibiotics, so monitoring is required. Using it with anticholinergic drugs may worsen side effects like difficulty urinating, constipation, or dry mouth.
