Efficacy & effects
It provides a correction effect for decreased circulating blood volume and interstitial fluid and metabolic acidosis.
View approved original textHide original text
This medication is used to replenish extracellular fluid and restore balance when circulating blood volume and interstitial fluid decrease. Additionally, it aids in correcting metabolic acidosis and improving the body's acid-base balance. Thus, it is employed to stabilize the body's fluid and electrolyte status and effectively manage metabolic abnormalities.
How it is given
Adult administration
For adults, a single dose of 500-1,000mL is administered via intravenous drip. The administration rate is 300-500mL per hour (75-120 drops per minute). Dosage and administration rate should be adjusted according to age, weight, and symptoms.
Precautions
Do not administer this medication simultaneously with calcium-containing intravenous preparations and the specific antibiotic ceftriaxone, as precipitation may occur when using the same infusion device. An allergic reaction may occur while using this medication; therefore, if any hypersensitivity symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment sought. As this solution contains potassium, care must be taken in patients at high risk of hyperkalemia, such as those with impaired kidney function or heart disease, and blood potassium levels should be checked regularly. Due to the potential increase in sodium and chloride levels, it should be used cautiously in patients at risk of hypernatremia or hyperchloremia, especially in those with heart failure or liver disease, and electrolyte and kidney function should be monitored. This medication may cause hyponatremia; therefore, in patients at risk of hyponatremia, especially children, the elderly, and post-surgery patients, careful observation of blood sodium levels and neurological status is required. Due to the potential increase in calcium levels, it should be avoided in patients with hypercalcemia or a history of calcium kidney stones. Fluid overload may occur, so it should be administered carefully to patients with difficulty regulating fluid; continuous monitoring of fluid balance and electrolyte status is necessary for long-term administration. This medication should not be administered to patients with lactic acidosis, fluid overload, hypernatremia, or neonates, nor to those with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components. Use this medication cautiously in patients with severe renal or liver dysfunction, or heart failure, and adjust the rate of administration to be slow. Administration in large volumes or rapidly may result in side effects such as cerebral edema, pulmonary edema, and peripheral edema. When used with other medications, be cautious of interactions, especially when co-administered with drugs that increase the risk of hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, or hypercalcemia, frequent checks of blood electrolyte levels are required. During pregnancy, consider the risks to the fetus and administer only when necessary; for children and the elderly, adjust the rate of administration and closely monitor blood electrolyte status. Before administration, disinfect the patient's skin and equipment to prevent infection, warm the solution to body temperature, administer promptly after opening, and do not use any remaining solution.
