Adult dosage
For trichomoniasis: Metronidazole as usual for adults is taken orally at a dose of 250 mg twice daily for 10 days. For anaerobic infections: The usual adult dose is 500 mg taken orally 3 to 4 times a day. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 4 g, and treatment is generally for 7 to 10 days. Postoperative prophylaxis for anaerobic infections: The usual adult initial dose is 1 g, then 250 mg taken orally three times a day.
Children's dosage
For injection use, children aged 12 years and older are treated the same as adults. In children under 12 years of age, for the treatment of anaerobic infections, the dosage is 7.5 mg (1.5) per kg of body weight administered three times a day via intravenous injection.

This medication is effective for treating parasitic infections such as trichomoniasis and amoebiasis. It is also used for abdominal infections such as peritonitis, intra-abdominal abscess, and liver abscess, as well as skin and skin tissue infections and gynecological infections such as endometritis. It is effective in severe infection conditions such as sepsis, brain abscess, pneumonia, and bone and joint infections, and plays an important role in treating infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and in preventing postoperative infections. This drug is effective against various bacteremias and necrotizing pneumonia, and osteomyelitis due to its sensitivity to anaerobic Bacteroides and Streptococcus species. It is used to improve and treat infections in complex and diverse infection states.

Dosage and Administration

Precautions

This drug should be avoided due to reports of tumorigenicity in rodent studies. In patients with cocaine syndrome, there is an increased risk of hepatotoxicity, so liver function tests must be performed before, during, and after treatment, and therapy should be discontinued immediately if liver function worsens. This medication should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to it, blood disorders, neurological diseases, early pregnancy, or during breastfeeding. In particular, taking it with alcohol may lead to severe reactions, so alcohol consumption should be avoided for 3 days during and after administration. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function should use this drug cautiously, and adverse reactions such as skin rash, gastrointestinal problems, neurological symptoms, and blood anomalies may occur, requiring careful monitoring. If symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, hallucinations, or seizures appear, avoid driving or operating machinery, and regular examinations are recommended for use beyond 10 days. This drug may interact with other medications, so if you are taking other drugs, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Do not use in early pregnancy, and avoid breastfeeding for more than 24 hours after administration.
