This medication is used for endocrine disorders such as adrenal cortical insufficiency and adrenal disease syndrome. It also helps prevent exacerbation of rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and acute gouty arthritis. It is effective in collagen diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and polymyositis, as well as skin disorders like pemphigus and severe psoriasis. Additionally, it is used for allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma and atopic dermatitis, as well as ophthalmic conditions like iritis. This medication also applies to gastrointestinal and blood disorders like ulcerative colitis, acquired hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. Rarely, it is used in emergency situations for tumorous and edematous conditions like leukemia and nephrotic syndrome, and severe infections. Overall, it is effective in improving various diseases.
Dexamethasone should be administered orally in divided doses of 0.5-8 mg per day for typically adults, 1-4 times a day. Adjust appropriately based on age and symptoms.

When using this medication, various situations must be carefully considered. In patients with glaucoma, tuberculosis, hypertension, thrombosis, peptic ulcers, and other diseases, this medication can worsen symptoms, so it should be used cautiously and only when absolutely necessary. Additionally, patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, renal failure, and epilepsy require caution when using this drug. While taking this medication, various side effects may occur, so it’s important to closely monitor the body’s condition. There may be worsening infections, endocrine disturbances, gastrointestinal issues, mental health problems, musculoskeletal disorders, skin reactions, and eye health issues. Particularly, eye-related side effects require regular ophthalmic examinations. Long-term use may result in adrenal insufficiency, and sudden discontinuation can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms, so it is advisable to taper off gradually. Additionally, there is an increased risk of infection, so special care should be taken to avoid exposure to infectious diseases such as chickenpox or measles. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform the physician or pharmacist about any medications currently being taken. In particular, dosage adjustments may be necessary when used with drugs that affect enzymes that metabolize drugs in the liver. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only when necessary due to potential adverse effects on the fetus or newborn; it is advised to discontinue breastfeeding during use. In children and adolescents, side effects such as growth retardation can occur, so they should be observed carefully and given the minimum effective dose. Elderly patients also have a higher risk of side effects and should be administered this drug with caution. Finally, it can be very dangerous to contract chickenpox or measles while using this medication, so it is important to verify the medical history and vaccination status and to pay particular attention to infection prevention.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), reactions like anaphylaxis, severe allergic reactions, severe rashes accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, mouth/eye mucosal pain, severe skin abnormal reactions, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory issues accompanied by cough and fever, breathing problems, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme malaise, liver abnormalities (jaundice), sudden and severe headaches.
Secondary adrenal cortical insufficiency, diabetes, menstrual irregularities, suppression of adrenocorticotropic hormone secretion, Cushing's syndrome, buffalo hump, peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, pancreatitis, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, abdominal distension, thirst, loss of appetite, increased appetite, mental disorders, depression, euphoria, insomnia, headache, dizziness, seizures, osteoporosis, avascular necrosis of the femoral and humeral heads, myopathy, myalgia
