View approved original text

This medication is used to replenish fluids in cases of dehydration, especially when the body is lacking water. It is also used to dilute or dissolve injection medications. Therefore, it can help patients maintain hydration and ensure the safe administration of injectable drugs.

How it is given

Adult administration

Administer 500 to 1000 mL by intravenous infusion. The infusion rate should be no more than 0.5 g/kg per hour as glucose. Use an appropriate amount for dissolving and diluting the medication. Adjust as necessary according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication may have glass particles from cutting the ampoule, so extreme caution should be taken, especially when used in children or the elderly. Patients receiving intravenous injections of this medication containing glucose need to be cautious as vitamin B1 can be rapidly depleted, leading to the risk of serious deficiency. This medication should not be administered to patients with conditions such as hypertonic dehydration, fluid overload, hyperglycemia, acidosis, hypokalemia, hyperosmolar coma, or intolerance to carbohydrates. Additionally, it is contraindicated for patients with anuria or hepatic coma, and those with hypersensitivity to this medication. Patients with tendencies for potassium, phosphate, or magnesium deficiency, or with hyponatremia, diabetes insipidus, kidney failure, heart failure, severe malnutrition, thiamine deficiency, sepsis, or severe trauma should use this medication with caution. Administration in large volumes or at a rapid rate can lead to electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, hyperosmolarity, hyperglycemia, and kidney damage; therefore, care should be taken. Long-term administration may affect insulin secretion, potentially requiring insulin administration for blood sugar control. During pregnancy, this medication should only be administered if absolutely necessary due to potential risk to the fetus, and during labor, both the mother and newborn may face risks of hyperglycemia and metabolic acidosis, necessitating careful judgment. Newborns, especially premature or low birth weight infants, are at higher risk for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, and their blood glucose levels should be closely monitored. The elderly should be administered this medication with greater caution due to decreased bodily functions. Excessive dosages may lead to symptoms of hyperglycemia or diabetes, which may require insulin treatment. Subcutaneous injections may cause local irritation and circulatory failure, so they are best avoided, and any unused portion after opening should be discarded immediately. To reduce the risk of infection during injections, hygiene should be observed, and it is recommended to warm the medication before use. When administering this medication with other drugs, chemical or physical reactions may occur, so careful observation is necessary under the guidance of a specialist. To prevent air embolism, it is best not to connect injection containers in series.
