How it is given

Adult administration

As sodium chloride, it is typically administered at 20–1,000mL subcutaneously, intravenously, via intravenous drip, or rectally. The dosage and rate of administration should be adjusted according to age, weight, and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is in ampoule form, and care should be taken when opening the ampoule to avoid contamination with glass fragments. Extra caution is necessary when used in children and the elderly. This medication should not be used in patients with hypernatremia, those with excess fluid in the body, and patients with edema and ascites due to liver cirrhosis. Patients with heart or circulatory problems, impaired kidney function, and low blood protein levels should use this medication with caution. Additionally, caution is advised for patients with abnormal sodium or potassium levels in the blood, those with peripheral or pulmonary edema, pregnant women with preeclampsia, patients with certain hormonal abnormalities, as well as children and the elderly. Rapid or excessive administration of this medication can impose a burden on the heart, leading to side effects such as congestive heart failure, edema, acidosis, and electrolyte imbalance. There may also be infections, pain, phlebitis, or thrombosis at the injection site, so injection technique must be carefully managed. If side effects occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and the patient's condition should be assessed, with appropriate treatment and testing provided if necessary. During the use of this medication, the patient's fluid balance, electrolyte concentration, and acid-base status should be regularly monitored for changes. Elderly patients require special attention due to weakened physical function, including slower administration rates and reduced dosages. When compounding, it should be verified that this medication mixes well with other medications, and before administration, it should be thoroughly checked for color changes, precipitates, or crystals. Prior to administration, skin and injection equipment should be cleaned and disinfected to prevent infections, and in cold weather, the medication should be warmed to body temperature before use. After opening or after adding other medications, use immediately, and any remaining medication should be discarded. During injection, the administration should be done slowly to reduce the risk of side effects.
