Effective brushing method to reduce bad breath... Rinsing with 'this water' toothpaste is effective
Rinsing your mouth with warm water when brushing your teeth is more effective at eliminating bad breath than rinsing with cold water. No matter how hot it is, let's get used to warm water instead of cold water when brushing.
According to a paper published in the Journal of the Korean Society of Dental Hygiene, the cleansing ingredient in toothpaste dissolves better in warm water than in cold water.
In this study, 30 women in their 20s without periodontal disease were experimented on. They used the same toothbrush and toothpaste, but the temperature of the water used to rinse the toothpaste was varied between cold and warm water during brushing. The plaque index and bad breath levels were measured, and it was found that when brushing with cold water, the plaque index decreased by an average of 22.8 points, while brushing with warm water resulted in an average reduction of 31.3 points. Similarly, bad breath decreased by 9.7 points with cold water brushing, but by 13.2 points with warm water brushing.
This is similar to the principle that washing clothes with detergent dissolved in warm water is more effective than in cold water. When brushing your teeth, the cleansing ingredients in the toothpaste dissolve better in warm water, helping to remove plaque more effectively.
Chief Director Kim Sang-cheol of Gangnam White Dream Dental Hospital said, "It is best to use water at a temperature similar to body temperature rather than water that is hot enough to burn the inside of your mouth."
He said, "Since the ultimate cause of bad breath lies on the tongue, it is important to remember that cleaning the tongue thoroughly with a toothbrush is more crucial for eliminating bad breath."
