[Seoul Yonsei Jongno Neurosurgery] Epidermal Cyst Treatment Review

This is a review of the treatment I received for an epidermal cyst at the surgery clinic.
I once felt a hard lump inside my ear.
Since I have naturally oily skin, I’ve had sebum and acne on my ears a few times, so at first I thought it was just a simple pimple-like problem.
However, even though I hadn't touched it with my hands, one day I noticed it had grown larger.
Since it was inside my ear and I couldn't see it with my eyes, I didn't even realize it was getting bigger.

It hurt a lot when I pressed it with my hand, and I could feel a lump inside.
It wasn't in a state where I could squeeze it, so I thought it wasn't just a pimple, and I went to the hospital long after the lump had formed.

I was debating whether to go to an ENT doctor or a dermatologist.
I thought I should go to a dermatologist because it was on the skin near the entrance of my ear, not inside, but the dermatology clinic I usually go to was closed, so I went to a nearby neurosurgery clinic instead.

Yonsei Jongno Neurosurgery is located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
There is a director who is a specialist in neurosurgery.

The director examined it and said it was an epidermal cyst, and that I need surgery because it is large.
They explained that the epidermal cyst must be removed along with the lumpy cyst sac to prevent recurrence, and that they would perform the pinhole method surgery.
The pinhole method involves making a very small hole to drain sebum and cyst sacs, so it is said to leave less scarring and allow for faster recovery.
This wasn't my first time having an epidermal cyst; I had previously undergone surgery at a dermatology clinic where they simply made an incision and stitched it up.
Perhaps because this is a surgical clinic, they performed the procedure using the pinhole method to minimize scarring!
I had removal surgery right on the day I went to the hospital.

I remember being a little nervous since it was my first time visiting a neurosurgeon, but I felt much more at ease because they explained the treatment methods in detail to ensure no scars would remain.
After hearing about the pinhole method, I felt that I made the right decision coming to surgery.

I received an anesthetic injection before the surgery. Since it was injected into the skin of my ear, the injection itself was painful, but fortunately, the anesthesia worked well, so I didn't feel anything during the removal surgery; I only felt a slight sensation of my skin being scraped away.

The nurse was so kind and put on a huge bandage right after the removal treatment, telling me not to let water touch it at all on the same day haha.

When I went for a dressing the next day, they changed it to a small bandage.

The director told me that although removing an epidermal cyst is a simple treatment, it is still considered surgery in its own right, so I should not do the dressing at home but get professional dressing at the hospital.
So I had to visit the clinic about 2 or 3 more times just for dressings.

A scab had formed on the site where the epidermal cyst was removed, and
After the scab fell off, I could see a little bit of the needle marks.

After it completely healed, the needle marks disappeared as well.
It is clean now, without a single trace.

As a result, since having it removed back then, the epidermal cyst has never recurred!
In particular, I think removing the epidermal cyst using the pinhole method instead of an incision was a stroke of genius.
There were no scars and the recovery was very fast, so I think I made the right decision going to Yonsei Jongno Neurosurgery.

There wasn't really anything disappointing, but
I remember being a little surprised because the cost of the dressing was higher than I expected.
I think it was nearly 10,000 won just to disinfect and replace the bandage...
Still, I have no complaints because the epidermal cyst was treated cleanly.
If I happen to get another epidermal cyst in the future, I plan to go back to this surgical clinic. I recommend looking into the pinhole method for epidermal cyst treatment rather than an incision!
