Nail-related questions

Usually, when getting a manicure, I think I have seen people decorate and attach artificial nails or grow their nails longer before going.

It's a part I've never done before... and it's a field I wasn't very interested in.

Recently, my girlfriend said she wanted to try getting her nails done once (?) and if she wants to do it again, I want to do it for her again..

I think they might like it if I look into it a bit and take them along.

There is no additional information... Are there any things I should pay special attention to or prepare?
