I have had symptoms of recurring red rashes on my skin for a long time. At first, I thought it was just hives or an allergy, but the itching was severe and the affected area kept getting wider.
After getting tested at the hospital, I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea. Since taking medication didn't make much difference, I underwent UVB treatment. I was worried at first because it was an unfamiliar treatment, but after it healed completely, I was very satisfied with the UVB procedure.
Pityriasis rosea
As the name suggests, it is a skin condition characterized by rose-colored red rashes appearing on the skin, with no clear cause.
Symptoms include intense itching, a burning sensation, and easy swelling.
I don't really know why I got it, and no one in my family has pityriasis rosea.
I tried drug treatment for a while, but didn't see much effect.
I received treatment at the dermatology department of a general hospital and underwent UVB therapy.
UVB
Simply put, UVB treatment is phototherapy, a laser treatment that exposes the skin to therapeutic ultraviolet rays.
It is not a cosmetic laser like Ulthera or lifting lasers used at general dermatology clinics.
It is a laser that uses sunlight, so its wavelength is different from that of cosmetic lasers.
Since it is a laser used to treat inflammatory skin diseases, it is covered by insurance if you are diagnosed with the condition.
Treatment process
When you enter the treatment room, there is a large cylindrical UVB machine.
It is a method where you go inside here and get exposed to ultraviolet rays.
Change your clothes so that the area with pityriasis rosea is visible, apply baby lotion, and go into the machine.
When you ring the call bell, a nurse comes, closes the machine door, and you receive the procedure.
At first, I was a little scared thinking, "Exposing my body to UV rays?"
When I actually received it, it didn't hurt; it just felt warm.
Treatment was done twice a week, and the effects didn't appear immediately.
1st and 2nd rounds
At first, I didn't really feel a difference before and after.
I was told in advance that one or two treatments wouldn't be enough and that I needed to receive them consistently to see results and feel satisfied with the UVB, so I went to get treatments with patience.
After about the 3rd or 4th session, the rash gradually faded and the itching also started to decrease.
From that point on, my satisfaction with UVB definitely started to increase.
In the past, my skin was blotchy and had severe red marks.
It has improved a lot, even visually, while receiving treatment.
So, starting from the 6th session, I also reduced the medication to just the morning dose.
I also reduced the UVB treatment from twice a week to once a week.
I received a total of 8 sessions, and the treatment is finished.
At that time, the neck area was the worst.
After the treatment, all the spots on my neck disappeared.
Personally, I was very satisfied with the UVB treatment.
The difference before and after~ It's completely healed.
The really fortunate thing is that pityriasis rosea has no clear cause.
It is a disease that can be completely cured if treated properly.
Instead, it recurs frequently.
So, I am still managing it now.
I try to avoid the habit of scratching my skin or touching it with my hands as much as possible.
I don't drink alcohol, either.
At first, I was very worried because UVB itself was so unfamiliar to me.
After actually receiving treatment, I understood why it is widely used for treating skin diseases.
Especially for me, who found medication alone insufficient, it was very helpful, so my satisfaction with UVB is 100%.
It used to recur every now and then, but since receiving UVB treatment, the rash has subsided, so I am very satisfied with the UVB.
In fact, if you look up reviews, there are many comments saying that everyone was highly satisfied with the UVB.
If you have been suffering from skin rashes or atopic dermatitis for a long time, I hope you try treatment and experience the satisfaction of UVB like I did.
