Can a crown on a tooth decay from the inside?

I have a tooth that was crowned, but it seems to be hurting more and more these days.
This is a tooth that has never had a root canal treatment before, but lately I've been feeling a tingling sensation and it hurts.

I thought it would be okay with a crown, but can it rot again from the inside?

In this case, should the crown be removed and then re-crowned?

Or is this a part that requires root canal treatment?
